Rethinking autonomy, self-determination and sovereignty: search for peace in Northeast India - Guwahati: North Eastern Social Research Centre, 2017. - 199p.: pbk.: 21 cm. - NESRC Peace Studies Series, Vol.9 .

The Government of India-NSCN_IM Framework Agreement of 3rd August 2015 has reopened the debate on the ideology of autonomy, self-determination and sovereignty that have been legitimising factors in most nationalist struggles in the Northeast India. With the hope of making a contribution to the new thinking that is required to support the peace process, the present publication discusses the history, the actor and issues involved in the debate in the Northeast, at the national and global levels. Beginning with the Westphalian treaty and the Renaissance and Enlightenment in the West, it studies the role of colonialism on the one hand and of the Burmese and Indian political links on the other that have affected the processes of peace and conflicts in Northeast India. One hopes that this effort at rethinking the issues will make a small contribution to the reflection on autonomy and related issues.
