This book presents the results of social research with members of the Dimasa community in Northeast India. Both qualitative and quantitative modes of research present a consistent picture of what is happening with college-educated Dimasa young people. These young people, while remaining extremely loyal to their traditional culture and socialsystems, are more likely to express doubts about Dimasa traditional religious beliefs and practices. Reflection on the results challenges the community to take seriously the cultural change that is presently emerging, specifically the role of tradition, individualism and autonomy, and the role of women.
