Studies of development-induced displacement in most states show that the impact on the displaced has been negative. But in Nagaland it is not as bad as elsewhere, mainly because of its land management based on the customary law and it is taken over through negotiations. However, with the State trying to attract more investors, more land may be acquired through notifications and that can have an adverse impact on its people. The book studies the extent of land acquisition and displacement 1947-2010, its impact on the people affected by, and proposes a development paradigm that can combine economic growth and infrastructure building with people’s development.
