Summary: Buddha-Carita will tell us little new about Buddhism and its history, but it is full of information for those who are interested in the history of Sanskrit literature; and I am sure that other and younger eyes than mine will bring many points of interest to light which I have failed to see, as I was too much engrossed with minute varities of reading and difficulties of interpretation to have always had leisure or insight for these larger questions. After all, I have been obliged to leave many passages which are obscure from some undetected corruption in the text. The inaccuracy of the Nepalese MSS. must be my plea, as I submit this editio prima of the Buddha-carita to the Criticism of Sanskrit scholars.
