Summary, etc |
The writers in the book attempt to understand the role of the media in Northeast India which is perceived as a zone of conflicts. An analysis of the media shows that by and large they are limited by the low priority given by the owners to issues such as conflicts, lack of training of the journalists and fear of the stakeholders. While conflicts get low priority, women are even lower down. These statements are substantiated by the study of three conflicts from Manipur and Assam to Kashmir. Thus, one is left with the impression that the media do not give to the peace processes the support they deserve and may in fact persist in the stereotypes of the region as one of conflicts. - Dr Walter Fernandes Founder, North Eastern Social Research Centre 1.
