Summary, etc Land is at the centre of tribal identity and is also considered a cause of most ethnic conflicts in Northeast India. That justifies a study of the tribal land issue. The present publication based on one such study is an attempt to understand the traditional land management systems of six representative tribes of the region, the changes that have occurred among them, the processes that resulted in such changes and the consequent land alienation. The question asked was whether it is true that modernisation without adequate preparation of a community for the interface results in stronger patriarchy and class formation in their relatively egalitarian communities. Secondly, what is the link between land alienation and ethnic conflicts? Data collection was geared to the need to find answers to these questions. The answers found in this book substantiate the hypothesis that modernisation without adequate preparation of the tribe for the interface with modernity is intrinsic to the changes. Also the hypothesis that conflicts result from these changes seems to be substantiated.

https://www.amazon.in/s?k=Ownership%2C+Management+and+Alienation%3A+Tribal+Land+in+Northeast+India&i=stripbooks&crid=12M3B8CNUYCEX&sprefix=ownership%2C+management+and+alienation+tribal+land+in+northeast+india%2Cstripbooks%2C248&ref=nb_sb_noss
